DISCOVER the Tiepolo

In order to complete the complex architectural upgrading of the Patriarchal palace, Dionisio Dolfin commissioned the young, yet very promising Giambattista Tiepolo from Venice for the decoration of the ceiling of the Scalone d’onore (monumental staircase) by architect Domenico Rossi. The fresco entitled Cacciata degli Angeli ribelli, (Expulsion of the Rebellious Angels) of 1726 marked the beginning of a long-term partnership between Giambattista Tiepolo and Dionisio Dolfin which was to continue with the decorating of the Galleria degli ospiti (the Guests gallery) and the Sala rossa (the Red room), an important place used as an ecclesiastic court room.
